Buttevant
AFC
Buttevant Athletic
Football Club (AFC) is a County Cork
soccer club. Established in 1976 the club
began playing its' soccer matches on a
pitch provided by the Stack family in
Bregogue. Soon after this matches were
played on the farm of Mr. David Magner
one mile from Buttevant. After some years
Buttevant AFC played football matches on
pitches situated on the property of Mr.
M. Regan in Spittal before returning to
the Magner pitch for a few seasons.
Finally the soccer club moved to its' own
grounds for the football season starting
September 1997.
In 1994 Buttevant acquired
six acres of land at New Street for
development. Cumulative expenditure on
the development of a dedicated
footballing facility exceeds €150,000 to
date. Development included the provision
of two regulation size football pitches
including extensive drainage, an
all-weather soccer pitch and fitted
dressing rooms.
Buttevant AFC registered
their first success on the football pitch
by winning the Cork AUL Division 3 in the
1982/83 season.
In 1999 Buttevant AFC
Ladies Club was formed.
During November 2001 the
soccer club hosted a UEFA Under 19
Championship match between Croatia and
Latvia.
